What we buy – Supermarket

The Greenhouse community project supermarket would offer Sheringham shoppers a highly competitive, alternative destination for their ‘weekly’ shop. No more costly and time-consuming travel to Cromer, N. Walsham, Fakenham and beyond.

Stocked with bargain-packs, own label products, top brands and a host of locally sourced, fresh and prepared foods, it can become the store-of-choice for Sheringham and surrounding villages and towns. Similarly, the integral café can become a destination in its own right for shoppers and visitors

A sustainable and modern supermarket –

• A food-focused supermarket delivering a store-of-choice for locals needing that big 'weekly' shop and yet another attraction for Sheringham visitors.

• A compact retail sales area of 1250 sq.m., with competitive prices and quality across a full range of everyday goods including locally sourced products.

• Complementing rather than competing with town centre shops – no books, clothes, pharmacy, hardware or electrical items.

• Eco-Zone educational area promoting the environment and sustainability to all.

• The Greenhouse Café would welcome shoppers, users of Splash, allotment holders and visitors.

• Natural energy would be generated from solar and wind sources.

• Bio-compactors would take bio-degraded waste from the store and Academy to generate compost for re-use by allotment holders and the Academy’s kitchen garden.

• Access through a new entry road, to ease traffic flow and promote safety.

• A FREE electrically-powered shuttle bus service would operate frequently between Sheringham, Upper Sheringham, Beeston Regis and Sheringwood and the Greenhouse community project.

• Electric vans would offer FREE deliveries to in-store, online and telephone shoppers.

• FREE parking for coaches and up to 135 cars, with Disabled and Parent & Child spaces.

• Covered parking for bikes.

• A sustainable drainage system in the car parks would incorporate filter drains and reed beds to cleanse run-off water naturally.

• Recycling – collection bins to dispose of recyclable items not covered by current domestic collections.

The proposed Greenhouse project supermarket would offer Sheringham shoppers a highly competitive, alternative destination for their ‘weekly’ shop.
