What we grow – Allotments

A major bonus of Sheringham’s Greenhouse community project is the ‘land swap’, now agreed by the Town Council. The new 21 acre site* will benefit all current allotment holders, everyone on the waiting list, the wider community and generations to come.

The new public allotments can become what the National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners (NSALG) described as "a national flagship site". The Norfolk Food Academy’s kitchen garden and polytunnel add to this dimension, giving opportunities for people of all ages to learn about growing their own food in a hands-on manner.

Academy Kitchen Garden –

• Would ‘host’ groups for educational visits.

• Provide fresh produce for Academy Kitchens.

• 100% organic.

• Polytunnel using recycled heat from Academy.

The New Allotments –

• Room for all, now and well into the future, through extended freehold land swap – from 12 to 21 acres.

• Over 200 plots – properly constituted and all legally protected to ensure allotment usage for future generations.

Prepared in accordance with specific NSALG guidance.

• £180,000 donation, on top of the land swap, to assist with setting-up the new site.

• Communal polytunnels utilising recycled heat from the Academy.

* Includes land for extension of Town Cemetery when needed.

The proposed Greenhouse community project would offer Sheringham shoppers a highly competitive, alternative destination for their ‘weekly’ shop, as well as a café, new allotments and The Norfolk Food Academy.
